Crisp, caramelised waffle bars made with browned butter, vanilla and pearl sugar—quick, indulgent and perfect with whipped cream or fresh fruit.
These waffle bars bake in a pan for easy slicing and serving. Brown butter and vanilla add depth, turning a classic waffle batter into a bar cookie style dessert. The edges are crisp and the center stays tender.
They are simple to make and travel well, making them good for potlucks or packed lunches. A light dusting of sugar or a thin glaze is all they need.
Expect toasted butter notes with a warm vanilla finish. The bars are lightly sweet with crisp edges and a soft interior.
Brown butter provides the main flavor, while vanilla keeps the batter fragrant. A touch of baking powder helps the bars rise slightly, giving them a light texture rather than a dense crumb.
Brown the butter and cool slightly. Whisk the wet ingredients, then stir in the dry ingredients until just combined. Spread in a lined pan and bake until golden.
Cool fully before slicing so the bars set. Serve plain or with a light glaze.
Do not overmix the batter or the bars will be tough. For crisp edges, bake on the middle rack and let the bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes before lifting.
Add lemon zest for a brighter flavor or fold in chocolate chips for a richer finish. A pinch of cinnamon works well for a warm note.
Bars keep for three days in an airtight container. They also freeze well; wrap individually and thaw at room temperature.
Waffle bars use pantry staples and a single pan. Brown butter adds flavor without extra ingredients, making this an affordable bake.
Serve with a drizzle of honey, a dusting of sugar, or a thin glaze. For brunch, add fresh fruit on the side.
Bars keep for three days in an airtight container. Rewarm briefly in the oven or toaster for a crisp edge.
If the bars are too dense, avoid overmixing and make sure the baking powder is fresh. For a drier texture, reduce the bake time slightly.
These bars use pantry staples and bake in a single pan, making them a low-cost option for a crowd.
Brown butter adds toasted notes that make the bars taste richer than a standard waffle batter. Vanilla keeps the flavor warm and familiar, and a small amount of baking powder keeps the crumb light.
Bake the bars a day ahead and slice once fully cool. They reheat well in a toaster or low oven and are easy to pack for snacks.
Top with fruit and a spoon of yogurt for a simple dessert. For a richer finish, drizzle with a quick vanilla glaze made from powdered sugar and milk. Cut the bars with a sharp knife after they cool fully so the edges stay neat. For a softer center, cover the pan loosely with foil for the last few minutes of baking. Let the bars cool completely before glazing so the topping sets cleanly. If you want a crisper edge, bake the bars until the corners are deeply golden.
Let the bars cool completely before storing so condensation does not soften the edges. Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for up to a month. Slice the bars with a serrated knife if the top is delicate. A sprinkle of sugar adds sparkle.
