Dive into the world of baking with our ultimate cinnamon rolls recipe, topped with luscious cream cheese frosting. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat!
Cinnamon rolls take time, but most of that time is proofing rather than active work. Once the dough is mixed and rested properly, the filling and shaping are straightforward, and the finished tray feels worth the wait.
This version uses a rich dough and finishes with cream cheese frosting for a soft, bakery-style result. Nuts and raisins are optional, but they add texture if you want a fuller breakfast-style roll.
You can shape the rolls the night before and refrigerate them before the final rise. Let them sit out while the oven heats so they can finish proofing and bake evenly.
Enriched dough needs enough proofing time to bake up light instead of dense. If the rolls go into the oven under-proofed, they can look fine on top but still feel heavy once sliced.
The frosting matters too. Spreading it over warm rolls lets some of it melt into the swirls, which helps the tray feel softer and more cohesive rather than just sweet on top.
These are best served warm, but they also reheat well the next day with a short oven warm-up or a brief microwave. If you are freezing them, do it once fully cooled so the frosting and crumb stay more stable.
They are also a good make-ahead bake for gatherings because most of the work is done before the tray goes into the oven. Once proofed properly, the finish is mostly about baking and frosting at the right moment.

Took a bit of time with the proofing, but the result was bakery-quality rolls. Will make again for brunch.

Used pecans instead of walnuts and added a bit of orange zest to the frosting—delicious twist!

Love that the dough is not overly sweet. Great balance with the filling and topping. My kids devoured them.

Followed everything exactly and they turned out amazing. I might reduce the sugar in the frosting next time, but otherwise perfect!

These were the fluffiest cinnamon rolls I've ever made! The dough was so soft and the cream cheese frosting was just the right amount of sweet.
